Western Union I - PLEDGE Roars Into Hope Zoo

Kingston, Jamaica - May 26, 2016: Western Union's I-PLEDGE (I Promise to Lend Encouragement to Develop Growth in Education) programme heads to the Hope Zoo on Friday, May 27, 2016 to fete pupils from schools who participated in the recently concluded essay writing competition.

This year Grade 5 students from select schools were invited to pen an essay on the topic of how to prevent Zika Virus in their communities. The essay competition is part of encouraging basic research and reading skills for students at the primary level during Child's Month.

The participating schools are Elletson Road Primary and Infant School, Jones Town Primary, Denham Town Primary, Cockburn Gardens Primary and Junior High, Iris Gelly Primary and Seaview Gardens Primary.

The winners of the essay writing competition will be awarded their prizes, while all attendees will be treated to a tour of the zoo as well as engaging in lively and informative story time activities with media personalities and GraceKennedy Money Services (GKMS) executives.

This is the second year of this format of the programme where students from select schools are invited to participate in an essay writing competition and a reading day at the Hope Zoo. The reading day at the zoo is a fun-filled activity for both students and teachers as it seeks to engage students in reading outside of the classroom.

Michelle Allen GKMS CEO says I-PLEDGE is more than just another Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, "it is a commitment to helping grow this country, and a worthwhile positive investment in our future through engaging with these young minds."

GraceKennedy Money Services (GKMS) has invested heavily in the I-PLEDGE programme and has demonstrated a vested interest in the development of the nation and its people. The company continues to support the Ministry of Education's national agenda of achieving 85% mastery in literacy among Grade Four students.
